Proposed Hempstead charter school location next to topless bar

An establishment with a Web site advertising the "absolute best" in topless entertainment, the Taste of Honey bar in downtown Hempstead would hardly rate as an ideal neighbor for grade-schoolers.
So red-faced state officials were scrambling to review their policies yesterday, after a Hempstead district school board member pointed out that the state had approved the opening of an independent charter school with a listed address next to a local strip club.
State officials added that they hadn't actually visited the school site yet, but would do so in the future, and would never allow a school to operate in such a location.
"We're always working to better our practices -- that's something we take great pride in," said Cynthia M. Proctor, spokesman for the State University institute that handles charter-school applications.
At least some of the students' fathers will be close to their kids that way.....

yes. we have a strict rule in our household that DS is not allowed to see *boobie bars* until he's AT LEAST 13...

i must have misunderstood
you said you didn't really have an opinion - so why bother commenting?
i think it's completely irresponsible and inappropriate for the charter school to be within arms distance of a strip club - and obviously the town officials think so too, as they are now scrambling to fix the situation

I was inspired via photoshop to creat a new avatar for you
with regard to the *discussion* I guess it doesn't make a difference WHERE the charter school is located, as long as you educate & explain to your children about the boobie bar. But IMO, I'm too lazy to have that conversation... yet.

yea, I just didn't understand what the big deal is unless they're advertising with lewd posters or soliciting...things of that nature. I didn't want to form an opinion stating that it wasn't a big deal and it turn out that they had large billboards of boobies

don't get me wrong, I think it's a big deal. Regardless how discreet they are...
Think about the element hanging around there etc etc.

Personally I think the bar is worried about losing patrons to the skimpy looking clothes on the youngin's these days.

I think it's pretty inappropriate..but how much contact will the kids have with the strip club? it will open way after the kids have left school, so I don't even see that the kids will see the bar's staff or patrons.
It's not a great neighborhood over there to begin with. I think the kids have a lot more to worry about than being near a topless bar..plus those bars have great security.
