Protecting your mattress if water breaks
At our preparation class the instructor gave the tip of buying a cheap fabric shower curtain to use under your sheet or mattress pad, (if you don't have a waterproof liner).
ETA: and to keep a garbage bag and towel in your car to protect your seats.

Re: Protecting your mattress if water breaks
That's a good idea. I had no idea how I was going to go about protecting my mattress. I was gonna sleep on garbage bags or something, but your way makes a lot more sense. Thanks!

Good idea!! I had not even thought of this yet.
....our dog insists on sleeping in between us. That poor guy is going to be horrified if my water breaks in bed.

They are good ideas but most of the time your water will break when you get up after lying down. Also a lot of the time it is not really a gush but more of a trickle, but better to be prepared.

Yes, all depends on the tear. If it's high, it'll be a trickle, if it's low it'll be a gush. I am glad she went over that, because I had no clue!

Re: Protecting your mattress if water breaks
Starting March 1st, I'll put a waterproof mattress protector cover on. I had it from the last pregnancy. My girl friend used a large black plastic garbage bag for basically everything. LOL Car, couches... bed..Office chair. Thankfully, I just had a slow leak. but that was always my fear; water breaking out somewhere or all over my car....

Re: Protecting your mattress if water breaks
When I was pregnant with my DS I put one of those waterproof pads you get from BRU under my sheet. Sleeping on top of a shower curtain liner would be uncomfortable I think. My water did break while I was in bed, but it was just a slow leak so I didn't really need it. Some people keep something on the seat of their car too. I've heard that if you have upholstered seats it's hard to clean and it can smell.
