Protocol question for IVF vets
I got my cycle calendar yesterday (yay!)and I noticed that I start ganirelix on the 4th day of stims. That's early, isn't it? I know that the ganirelix is used to prevent ovulation, but I usually started it later. I know you can't assess much without looking at the whole protocol, but I'm starting with a high dosage of Gonal-f for 3 days, then lowering that and adding menopur and ganirelix on day 4.
I've got an appt. tomorrow to go over everything anyway, but I was curious about it.

Re: Protocol question for IVF vets
Sounds like we have similar protocols. I did 750 iu of Gonal F for 3 days and dropped to 675 for the rest.
I may be wrong, it's kind of a blur at this point, but the Ganirelix was supposed to help me with my Luteal Phase Defect issue..I'm not 100%. I ahve to say, I just did whatever they told me to do. Usually I ask why about everything, but not this time!

Re: Protocol question for IVF vets
My RE never gave out a calendar. He based my protocol on what my follies were doing at the time. I do know that for me the gannirellix came at the end to prevent bigger follies from releasing an egg to allow the smaller follies time to catch up.

Hey there! Good luck with your upcoming cycle.
I started ganerelix very early just like you will. I thought it was weird too bc that other place had me do it so much later. Dr. B. explained it to me at thet ime but now I forget the reason. But yes, it's normal for his protocols.

--------------------------------------------------------sAME HERE, never a calendar after each appt and blood work, I was told to add this, decrease this. Ganirelix was at the end too.
I thought Dr.B gives everyone there own different protocol? Good luck to you..........

Re: Protocol question for IVF vets
They will tell you when to take it based on your sonos and bloodwork. the calendar is just an approximation.

Re: Protocol question for IVF vets
Thanks Christine, it's good to know that yours was started earlier too. That "other place" (haha). Patty, we are on similar protocols! My gonal-f is 525 to start, I think, then 300 or something like that.
I know that the calendar is an approximation. Dosages increased or decreased, etc. But for my other 3 IVFs, things didn't really veer off the calendar by more than a day or 2. We'll see what happens :)
