PSA - Cold Hands
I know I've seen a few posts about dealing with infants that have cold hands lately. DS also has this issue and up until today I thought he just want always cold and I wasn't keeping him warm enough.
But today at work I got a call from his daycare that his hands from the wrist down and his feet from the ankles down were beat red and freezing. I wasn't surprised because this has been happening a lot. But they were concerned because the tips on both hands and feet we purple. So i freaked out, called the ped who insisted I bring him in to be examined. I was a little panicked.
But it turned out that he is ok. The ped. told me that he would be more concerned if it was only happening on one side and not both or if there were other cardio symptoms (murmur, etc). He consulted with a pediatric cardiologists and both agreed that he was fine. He said that the blood vessels to his extremeties are more immature than the should be at this point (he is almost 4 months) and so i should expect that this will happen for a few more months. But just to dress him appropriately and keep him warm.
But needless to say my heart is still racing and this happened at 10am this morning. I guess because I was all along thinking it was normal and then for them to have them me frantically because he is turning purple. And the the ped consulting with a cardiologist just had me a little freaked.
So, just check your babies to make sure if this is happening that it isn't just one side over the other. It could be symptom of a circulatory or cardio issue. If it is happen on all extremeties just make sure that you dress them appropriately and ensure that nothing is too tight (diaper, onesie, etc.).

Re: PSA - Cold Hands
Glad to hear your DS is OK!
DS's hands and feet are also always cold, i am bringing him to the peds today b/c hes sick and will be asking about it to. I have Reynard's phenomena and one of the symptoms is extremities that get very cold and numb (sometimes in the winter i cant feel my toes), so i want to make sure DS doesn't have it.
