PSA - Ice Cream v. Frozen Dairy Dessert
My friend and I went out last night to Friendly's for ice cream (even when I go out for adult time i wind up at a kids place nowadays ). So she mentions how the ice cream that you buy in the container at a supermarket never tastes as good as when you get it in a restaurant. I concurred and brought up my dilemma last week when purchasing ice cream. The week before I had bought 2 containers of Turkey Hill (one for DH and one for me). Over the course of days, I noticed that his tasted (and held together better) than mine. Thinking I might have picked up a frozen yogurt flavor by accident, I looked at the container. Mine said frozen dairy dessert. His said ice cream. So this week Breyers was on sale and I was hard pressed to find ANY container that said ice cream on it. So after the conversation with my friend, I decided to look it up online.
Apparently you need a certain percentage of animal fat, i.e. cream, to be ice CREAM. The minute you start adding vegetable fat, i.e. CORN SYRUP, and reduce the amount of animal fat in it, then it become a frozen dairy dessert.
Since I never knew this before, I thought I would pass it along, because honestly, I have been cutting corn syrup out of my family's diets and the last place I expected to find it was in my ice CREAM.

Re: PSA - Ice Cream v. Frozen Dairy Dessert
I am an ice cream addict.......it's my favorite treat. I try to stay away from ice cream with a ton of ingredients, it grosses me out to see sixty things listed for something that is suppose to be a few simple ingredients. Haagen Daaz is the best........my fav, pineapple coconut, is just milk, cream, eggs, rum, and pineapple. No weird chemicals and crap.
I actually started making my own ice cream. It's sooooo easy (I have the Cuisinart ice cream maker) and so much cheaper and I like that I know exactly whats in it. No garbage fillers.

I like the breyers all natural because of this. There's only a few ingredients.

I noticed this last time I bought Bryers. Now I specifically look at the "title" under the flavor. I will only buy real ice cream.
