PSA #2 from my EMT friend, in reagrds to DS accident.....GOOD ADVICE
So after DS fell down our entire flight of stairs last night (sorry for beating a dead horse) my EMT friend called to check on him. He gave me two words of advice on two MAJOR things I did wrong in my reaction...which at the time NEVER crossed my mind and I just thought it was such good advice I would pass it on.
1) I ran down the stairs and scooped up DS out of instinct...what mother doesnt want to grab their child and hold them after a fall. But according to EMT friend.....I NEVER should have moved him, god forbid he injured his neck or spine. I couldve only made a bad injury FAR worse.
2) DH and I drove DS to the hospital ourselves. Again, he said, even though he seemed fine, GOD forbid he had a internal head injury or any other internal injury, there is nothing we could have done to help him en route to the hospital if something went wrong whereas if we called an ambulance, even though he seemed OK, but maybe really wasnt, they wouldve had proper lifesaving equipment and professionals on board to help him.
Just thought it was such important advice that in hindsight seems so logical, that I thought I would pass it on.

Definetely good advice. There was another time DH fell holding DS and we called the ambulance for the same reason. The time he rolled off the bed (which I wrote about in your other post) I waited a second to pick him up and he screamed right away but at that age they are so young it is very hard for them to fracture anything b/c most of their bones arent hardened yet.

Very good advice. And while in my brain I know both of those things, I only hope that God forbid something like that happened to my child that I would have the presence of mind to remember them. Like you, I think my first instinct would be to run over and scoop her up and then go to the ER with her.

Good advice!
In regards to driving yourself. I will add to WHY not doing it also.
- what if the injured person gets worse while in the car. WWYD? - what if you get stuck in traffic or get into an accident

This is what I meant to say, which you more eloquently stated......as to why we should not have driven him there
