PSA about taking your child to swimming classes

Dear Parent,

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT PUT LOTION (ESPECIALLY AQUAFOR) ON YOUR CHILD BEFORE THEIR SWIM LESSON!!!

They are like a greased pig. This will result in the instructor dropping them often. Your child will feel like they are drowning because the instructor can't keep a grip on them. This will result in them not wanting to go to class anymore and the shedding of needless tears.

Other than that, enjoy your lesson. Your child may cry. It's okay.

Love,

Former Swim Instructor that is a complete Hot mess in a bathing suit Chat Icon

Chat Icon Wow...it would never occur to me that people would do that.

Totally agree on the greased pig comment.

NUMEROUS people do it. They think it will protect their child from the chlorine's drying of the skin. They don't realize how it is still there for 24 hours after putting it on too. Do it AFTER the lesson.

BC I would never think of doing it to DD. BUT then I realized that some swim instructors probably do it during the summer in an outdoor situation. (I was thinking only indoor). My dd doesnt get burnt but if she were to have that skin type I probably would. What should those parents do then?

Most of the children's sunblock is non greasy. You should also apply it about 30 min before getting in the pool. That gives it time to be absorbed.

To test it out, feel your kids arms before they go into the pool, if they are greasy when dry imagine how greasy they are wet.

Any petroleum based stuff is just trouble when mixed with water.

That leads to the other PSA that vaseline melts condoms. Maybe it was just a SUNY legend but I heard that a lot in college.

Back to the aquaphor, if there is a little bit on his face from the night before, are we okay? DS will not go to sleep without his face cream. He's vain like that. He probably thinks this song is about him.
