PSA: Christmas Lights

Some of you probably noticed this already, but DS and I bought lights this year, and all of the packages (different brands) say the wires are coated with a chemical containing lead. I usually don't bother reading the boxes on these things, but I just happened to look at one, and there it was. It says to wash your hands after handling.

I'm guessing they were always coated with lead--it looks as if warning labels were slapped on some of the boxes. But just wanted to point it out--wash your hands and maybe keep your little ones away from them.

yes I noticed this a few years ago - it was one of the major reasons I never did baby pictures with the lights. I could never find a set that didn't have that warning.

Re: PSA: Christmas Lights

Same thing with some of the Christmas trees. I had picked upn an artificial tree at Target a few weeks ago and on the box it said may contain lead paint...wash hands after handlingChat Icon

So I returned it and bought a real tree instead.

It's kind of scary if it was on the wires all these years, and I'm thinking it probably was, but someone sued or complained, and now there are warning labels. I'm assuming almost all lights have the same coating at this point, even if it doesn't say so on the box.

Thanks for the warning about the artificial tree too. I didn't know that--we have a small one from our apartment that we've used for years. I wonder if it's the tree or the lights?
