PSA dunkin donuts and peanut/tree nut allergy

Ok so let me preface this by saying that i was told by a couple of different people and from various allergy forums online that Dunkin Donuts uses peanut oil to fry their donuts/munchkins......so although my daughter hasnt had an allergic reaction to munchkins either time she had them (before finding out about the peanut allergy) i have kept her away from all dunkin donuts products

fast forward to today

because my girl is going to pre-k this year i have been having anxiety over the birthday celebrations and what people will be bringing in snack/foodwise.....so i have to have replacement snacks for my dd just in case what is brought in isnt appropriate for her....so i wanted her to have a variety of choices kept in her school.... so i decided to call hostess because they are awesome for telling you exactly what nut free bakery code numbers to look for on their products so you know for certain those products are safe.....and then i called entenmanns which werent very helpful at all when it came to allergy info....and then i decided to call dunkin donuts on a whim....well i asked is it true that all the donuts/munchkins are made with peanut oil and the answer was no not at all.....she said "they are made with palm oil, cottonseed oil and soybean oil.....not peanut oil.....and yes there is a peanut donut and a peanut cookie but you need to call the location around you to see if they sell those because most locations dont sell them at all because of how prevalent the nut allergy is"

so if you got this far lolololol the moral to my story is

DONT TRUST WORD OF MOUTH AND THE INTERNET....CALL THE COMPANIES WHEN IT COMES TO ALLERGEN CONCERNS

There is a sign in every DD I go to (about 4 on a reg basis) that any of their products may contain allergens, including peanuts.

For something like this that isn't factory produced and packaged, as some DD shops bake in site, I wouldn't take corporates word for it. Plus some have a Baskin Robbins attached that serve peanut products.

I was going to say my peanut allergy DS eats munchkins all the time! I would say if he hadn't had a reaction by now I would think it is ok!

But def good to double check with individual stores..thanks for the heads up!

Last month I called a DD in my town that doesn't have a BR attached and they told me that while they don't use peanut oil they don't recommend their products for people with nut allergies due to the high risk of cross-contamination.

They don't use peanut oil, but admit themselves that there is a high risk of contamination so they do not recommend their products for people with peanut allergies. My son goes to a peanut free preschool and we are not allowed to bring in any DD products.
