PSA for Jiffy Lube customers

Jiffy Lube video clip

I have never used Jiffy Lube since DH once had to testify about some foul ups that ruined a family members car.

Also, DH said lots of shop that he worked in REQUIRED them to upcharge customers i.e., change the oil as requested but also try sell the customer a new air filter.

BUYER BEWARE!

I never trusted them. They always tried to sell me more and say other thing were wrong, and I'd always say no.
I get my oil changed at the dealership now.

Re: PSA for Jiffy Lube customers

The last time I used Jiffy Lube was 5 years ago... two weeks later my engine seized on me on my way to work and when the shop I had to have it towed to said there was no oil in it, it was bone dry, I couldn't believe it because I had taken my car there not even two weeks earlier for an oil change. I was 5 months away from paying that car off. I ended up having to buy a new car.

My sister also had a problem with them. They ended up piercing a hole by mistake that kept causing the oil to leak out.

I would NEVER again use them!

Well, after my $65 oil change that they decided to rethread something causing me to leak and spend about another $100 fixing it, which thank god I caught or I'd be out about $2000 for a new engine...well, never again!

That is almost exactly what happened when DH testified. Someone at Jiffy Lube changed the oil and weeks laer the engine seized up with NO OIL in it. They forgot to close/seal something so all the oil leaked out.

This was not at Jiffy Lube but I once had a mechanic tell me that my catalytic converter on my temp junker car needed replacing or the car would not pass inspection. My car had recently died so I bought a really old car to get me through the last few weeks of school before finals. It was late 1970's or early 1980's.

The mechanic felt like a complete arse when I explained that it had no catalytic converter when it came off the assembly line so why on earth would I add one. JERK!!

Re: PSA for Jiffy Lube customers

They will use whatever parts are available, even if they are not the proper parts for the car they are working on. A friend took her car to a JL & they did not bolt the oil pan back on properly & all the oil leaked out about 5 blocks away from the shop. Her engine seized. She had such a nightmare trying to get them to pay for the damages.Chat Icon

I am not a fan of "chain shops" in general for this reason.

OMG this happened to me once with a VW I used to drive. He told me I needed a new radiator when I brought it for a routine inspection. Told me it would be $1200 (btw this was in 1989, and the car was only worth $1500....) I told him to show me the radiator so he opened the trunk (rear-mounted engine) and showed me a slew of things...the air filter, the battery,....etc. No radiator...why??? BECAUSE IT WAS AN AIR-COOLED ENGINEChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Whatever, just cuz I'm a girl does not mean you can rip me off.... toolChat Icon
