PSA: Hair warning
This was on another thread:

Did you check to see if he had a piece of hair wrapped around his toes or fingers? Sounds silly, but it happens!
I take for granted the things I've heard while my kids were babies. It does happen. DH's co-worker warned him before I had the baby because his son's circulation was cut off when his wife's hair got wrapped around his little toe.
I assume people may know about this already.
It's definitely a problem - particularly with the post partum hair loss (which if you're not there yet, it is SIGNIFICANT enough that you will wonder if you're going bald).
Yes - your hair can get wrapped around their little fingers, toes & yes, even penises.
Please be sure to check them every time you change them.

Yep, hair tourniquets, common in infants. Good to check their fingers & toes often, esp. if you have light hair.

Re: PSA: Hair warning
I read this in a book once and was surprised that this could actually happen. It did make me check for little things like that when they were screaming "for no reason."

Re: PSA: Hair warning
It was suggested strongly that we wash DC clothes inside out for this reason.

Re: PSA: Hair warning
I had no clue. Thank you for posting!
I inspect DS all the time. I remove lints, etc...between toes, check the lints on onesies from the dryer.... so easy to be inhaled and obstruct his little airways. I have found lints in the shoulder area of his onesies.

When Julia was in the hospital for phenmonia, there was another baby in her room that had that happen to his toe, I felt so bad they had to have a Doctor come in an remove the hair then stitch up the cut in his skin, the baby was screaming!!

It does happen. I found a hair wrapped very tightly around DS's toe.

I found this with DD too - and that is with washing anything with feet and socks inside out!

Re: PSA: Hair warning
It happened to me when Brielle was not even a month old. Her toe was slightly purple and bulging at the tip. It was wrapped so tight,I thought I would never get it off. I was cyring , she was crying. At first I was picking at it, then those "motherly instincts" kicked in... I rubbed vaseline on it and off it came. So if it ever happens to anyone else ...try vaseline.

So funny, the ped just warned us the other day about the possibility of this!

Re: PSA: Hair warning
wow - I never knew this. You would think after having your 2nd that there is nothing else to learn. My hair is always falling out and I have always seen it on Ryan & Patrick.
Thanks for the tip!!

Re: PSA: Hair warning
Thanks for the info- my hair has been falling out like crazy and I am always finding it all over DD, especially between her fingers and toes. I didn't know it could be so dangerous.
