PSA-new Police equipment
Soooo I got pulled over on Wed on the LIE before exit 58 (heading Eastbound around 4:30 PM) The cop asked do you know why I pulled you over. I said no. He said the other officer back there has a special camera and he takes a picture of all the license plates and runs them through DMV. Your reg. is suspended for an insurance lapse in March 2006. Hmmm I never got a letter but I did change insurance last March(yes I saved a bunch of money by switching my insurance to Geico) Apparently the old co. never notified DMV of this...
So now i have to go to court and get a letter from geico about my coverage. What a PITA. So for any of you that are expired or whatever. Keep an eye out. This is apparently now a primary reason to pull someone over where i believe it used to be secondary besides for checks.

Re: PSA-new Police equipment
yep, Im aware of this. I unfortunately had a insd get pulled over and the same equipment was used. Crazy!!
ETA: Geico should of sent a letter to your previous carrier re: them taking over coverage. Your previous ins company would not know anything unless a call was made by you or a letter was sent from new Ins company.

Re: PSA-new Police equipment
Did you have your new insurance card with you?
Did the cop not accept that?

My DH was actually on a fox 5 special that was covering this new technology.
The camera scans hundreds of plates in just a few seconds and in another few it notifies them if the car is stolen, uninsured etc.
Crazy
This is great...definitely something positive!

I had just gotten new ones and kept forgetting to put them in my car

Re: PSA-new Police equipment
You can send a letter from Geico with the ticket. Get the letter from them, make a copy and send it certified return receipt.
You don't have to go down.
I've done this before.
It blows!
