PSEG WorryFree HomeServe
Has anyone purchased this coverage for their exterior water line?
I have thrown these mailings out for years but now I know someone who had an issue and spent so much money having to fix it.
I am just curious what it actually covers and if it is worth it. It is cheap - $3.99/month but I am still wary that it is a scam.

We have it but our area has crappy exterior piping and it covers the expenses once it fails.

I have always tossed these in the garbage. I think its a scam but people like my parents fall for it and purchase it.

To be clear, I know the homeowner is responsible for these expenses. That part isnt a scam. I just wonder if this coverage actually pays for that or if there are a million “exclusions.”

Homeserve is definitely not a scam. It’s been amazing for us. My parents have used it for years and it saved them so many thousands and so convenient they are great and come right away when there is an issue. We started using them years back when we got screwed with our heat not working and the company we had bought the contract with was telling us we needed a whole new unit. That’s when we got homeserve, they are amazing and ps like 5 years later the heat is still working just fine. We have the water line coverage as well and they have fixed leaks inside the house quickly and saved us a ton. The guy that comes has been so honest and we have saved thousands. They offer many different packages and coverages. Not sure what kind of scam it would be? My entire family uses homeserve on Long Island for many many years now.

I have to look, I remember there being an introductory rate for the whole first year which was ridiculously low and then it went up after that, still reasonable but I don’t know off hand. Also it depends on your plans and coverage. We added after the first year so it’s not just the heat it’s the water line and also leaks, etc so the rates are different. Will check later

Why would it be a scam, it's a legitimate company. I think its like any other insurance you pay for it "In case shit will happen".

Yeah it's not a scam. Whether or not it is worth it is a roll of the dice.
I will say though, ever since my 4 year old fridge had issue after issue and they came out and fixed it for free each time and when it was deemed unfixable gave us every penny we paid back as a credit towards a new fridge, I tend to think warranties on certain things are well worth it!

More recently no but in the first two years we had it - yes and the money we saved probably is still carrying over. It’s like any other insurance - you may never need it if if you do, it’s definitely worth it. It’s a personal choice. My parents always told me to get it and I never did. I regretted it when something happened and then signed up for the contract from then on.
