Pt Wash school: No balls during recess?
Pt. Wash school
Edited because it may be a poorly written article as it does say they are doing construction. It sounds like more info is needed. But still....

Re: Pt. Wash school: No balls at recess??
Let's just puts kids in a bubble and call it a day. I'm afraid of what the future holds with kids like these in charge.
ETA: Okay, so there's construction... but really- games of tag must be supervised? I don't know what one has to do with the other.

The article states that the play area is reduced in size now, so running and throwing become more dangerous. They measure is temporary and they are using nerf balls instead & still allowing regular balls in gym class, so it's not as crazy as the headline makes it seem.

This was just on HLN. If they are going to limit this kind of stuff, they need to get rid of the monkey bars. I think more kids get hurt on those than playing with balls, doing cartwheels, and playing tag!

Yes, I read the article. But what does tag have to do with construction? How are kids going to hurt themselves playing tag in a smaller area as compared to a larger area?

The ball issues makes more sense because if you throw a ball from 2 feet away & hit someone it will hurt more than if you threw it from 10 feet, and there also isn't as much room to move out of the way if other kids are close to you, but I can see how the same issues would apply to tag.
Kids may not scale back & will run full force & fall all over each other.
I do wonder how much space they have now.
To me it is the same as when it rained & we had recess inside. We had less space, so we weren't allowed to run around.
