Re: Public VS. Catholic School, what are the benefits of each?
My mom works at a Catholic HS and she keeps saying if she had worked there when I was younger she would have sent me there..although we're Jewish.

Thanks so much for everyone's input, we have an appt to meet with staff at our community public school, I need to get my kids out of their current school befoe they are impacted any further! I love the whole Catholic school morale setting, spirituality thing, but I think our local Catholic school has another agenda

Maybe we are just sending them to the wrong catholic school The kids have to earn tickets to use if they have to use the bathroom, and if their uniform is incomplete they are sent home Even as 1st graders.
WHAT?! OMG that was not my experience at all. The poor kids!!
This was never my experience either! How terrible!

ETA: I see alot of people saying if you are gifted Catholic Schools don't have enough services. I dont think that is true, my senior year, I took all St. John's accredited classes and ended up having enough credits from HS to put towards my first semester of college at Binghamton. Also, i received my teaching cert. to teach religious ed.
HS is different. A lot of Catholic High Schools are competetive and have AP courses and so forth, but in elementary school it's not the case. They had me leaving to go 2 grades ahead for reading and math and the teachers wanted to skip me 2 grades, but the principal wouldn't do it, and they said it wouldn;t have been enough anyway, so I had to leave. I was MUCH happier in a gifted and talented public school. It's not just advanced classes, etc, there's a whole psychology to gifted and talented education, and catholic schools just don't have the resources

Sorry, I thought she was talking about HS. I misunderstood. But I still stand behind my answer. I was a gifted student and I was pulled out of my classes with the other gifted kids for our own classes/lessons in particular subjects. I guess it depends on the school.
