Puerto Rico - Ritz-Carlton San Juan or El Conquistador in Fajardo?
We have enough points for a 4 night stay at either The Ritz-Carlton in San Juan or the El Conquistador in Fajardo. We are considering going during the week on Labor Day. I stayed at the El Conquistador over 10 years ago and while it was a FABULOUS resort - I mean really breathtaking - I felt very isolated. With that said, I have never been to San Juan - so I am not sure what that's like, i.e. is it easy to get around, are there things to do/see nearby (we won't have a car)? Thanks everyone!

I have been to El Conquistador and I LOVED it- but i agree, it is isolated.
We have friends that live in PR so they picked us up at the resort and took us to San Juan for dinner/nightlife. I have to say that it was awesome!!
If I were you I think I would chose the Ritz and then you have luxery mixed with history/more things to see/do

That's what I was hoping I'd hear!!!! As you stated, El Conquistador is crazy - just AMAZING - but you really are tied to the resort. Think we will try San Juan... and you seriously can't go wrong with the Ritz. Thanks again Jen!!!!

If you're looking for night life - San Juan. There's a lot right there and you could cab it to Old San Juan, etc.
In Fajardo you could easily take a day trip to Culebra or Vieques but there's even less going on on those islands.

You can absolutely go to the beach/swim in September. I used to stay in a town 20 min west of San Juan and the beach there was fine - I'm sure that it'll be just as nice in San Juan.

I have stayed at El Conquisador and it is awesome but I also agree a little isolated. I stayed right in San Juan in HS and the beach was just okay, honestly...but it was a really fun town!

Thank you! So if you had the chance to do it again - what would you do? San Juan or El Conquistador? I am all about the beach, Chris wants to "do" stuff

I would say El Conquistador--you can always do a day excursion. Plus I am sure they have parasailing, jetskis etc there kwim? I know that when I was there, there was a club, the casino, plenty to do at night
