Pumping ?-Correct me if I'm wrong here...

I started pumping right before bed a few days ago because DD has been so tired from holiday visiting and I didn't want my supply to suffer. So 10pm I pump and then get up at my usual 3am or so. BUT, I'm getting 1-1.5 oz less than usual.

I thought the more you empty, the more you make?? Chat Icon

Pumping doesn't truly mimic actual breastfeeding so your supply may decrease, but you're right that breastfeeding overall is based off of the supply/demand concept.

Is it later than usual? Are you tired? That could totally affect your supply.

Yes! It has been sneaking up to 4am and I'm completely exhausted. Chat Icon I wonder if I should cut out the extra session before bed or what? I used to go to sleep at 9pm.

if she is eating less you will make less.
As the previous poster said, pumping doesn't mimic the babies sucking - thus it doesn't cause you to produce more even though you may pump more.

So what does everyone think? Still pump before bed or should I try a different time during the day? I am hoping it's just the holidays that have thrown everything off...

I would keep pumping. I had to go back to 6x a day because I took a serious hit during the holidays. I'm finally starting to see my production go up - it does take a few days.

yeah i pump best in the morning.. my DD's ped. said i should slowly cut out the night time feedings that is during the night. The dr said if she feeds for 10 mins than goes to sleep make it 8 mins and cut back everynight.. soon enough the baby will realize its not worth it and sleep through the night.. i plan on trying that I WANT MY SLEEP BACK
