puppy teething-and vomiting
ok, my puppy has started losing his teeth-i feel so bad for him. he lost five teeth in the last week. he is chewing on everything and now we realized his eye teeth are getting loose. i have heard these are the hardest for them to deal with. his appetite is barely there, and last night and this afternoon when i got him out of his crate i noticed that he vomited a little. it was mostly phlem (sp?) and a few pieces of chicken that he had eaten. i saw on a website that this is normal while teething, just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience. he is still drinking but not eating too much. any advice would be appreciated!
thanks!

Re: puppy teething-and vomiting
Our puppy is going through the same thing.
We've decreased her food, so not to waste it since she's barely eating. She's thrown up at least 1-2 times a week - usually whatever she didn't digest and some phlem
We also water down her food a little, so it's easier to chew.
Bascally, just keep giving the dog toys to chew on - ours has found a love for ice cubes.
As everyone on here keeps telling me, it will get better and the little puppy will start to get back to themselves in a few months.

thanks so much for your response, i feel better knowing what he is going through is normal. i just cant believe how quickly the teeth fall out and the adult teeth start coming in! it must be so painful! poor little guys! i hope your puppy starts feeling better soon.

Re: puppy teething-and vomiting
we puppy mommies have to stick together.
If his vomitting is consistently happening, tho - call the vet. And try to make sure that he doesn't have any rigorous activity after he eats, it doesn't help with the stomach issues.

Re: puppy teething-and vomiting
thanks again. he is vomiting in the same way that you described. he lost two of his canine eye teeth (the sharp pointy ones) tonight within an hour of each other and then he seemed much more comfortable. he even ate a little bit. we did give him boiled chicken and wet food (he loves boiled chicken-its his favorite treat) and since it was the only thing he was willing to eat we gave him more than we usually do. i am just glad that his activity level hasn't totally dropped and he is still drinking normally, so i know he wont get dehydrated. thanks for the advice!

Re: puppy teething-and vomiting
awwwww...poor puppy, I remember those days....white rice, plain canned pumpkin, and frozen carrots were my life saver!!! Also, a little plain oatmeal helps...soft on the stomach and easy for them to get down.

Re: puppy teething-and vomiting
When Gus was teething we switched to a soft puppy food and gave him frozen waffles, pancakes, and ice cubes Gus LOVED the ice cubes the most. You can also give him childrens tylenol if he's running a fever. You could also try lamb and rice food and add water to soften. Lamb and rice is WONDERFUL for puppy gut and teething. Good Luck!!
