Teething Puppy Question....
So, Daisy is still losing more baby teeth and she won't touch her food cause it's hurting her to chew, so we've been wetting down her food, so she can lick it up instead.
I haven't done this, and wanted to ask. When I was teething as a child, my dad would rub some alcohol (vodka/gin) on our gums to make us feel better - can you do this for dogs going through the same thing?
For the last week, she isn't sleeping through the night - she's been waking up to chew on stuff, like our hair, fingers, etc.
I've never owned a dog before, so I wasn't sure if this was a no no, so I wanted to ask.

Personally, I wouldn't do the alcohol thing.
Just make sure he has enough toys to chew. Go to Petco and get some nylabones and other toys that are recommended for "rough"chewers.
It will pass!

Re: Teething Puppy Question....
I don't think that rubbing alchohol has any numbing effects except for making the baby a little bit tipsy which might make him/her feel better.

Re: Teething Puppy Question....
I would not do it without asking the vet. The answer could be different for a small dog. I wish I had a good solution for you!

I do that during the day, I was asking more for the night when we're all sleeping in bed. We bring the chew toys with us, but she's a puppy and gets bored (ie, reason she chews on our hair, fingers or starts licking us in the middle of the night).

Licking people while they sleep might might not stop when they stop teething! That part is worse when they are older because older dogs are more likely to have yucky breath and smelly saliva!!!

Do you do this bc of Kasey? Does Daisy love it?
Not sure about the alcohol, I'd def ask your vet about it first.

Re: Teething Puppy Question....
I def wouldn't give her alcohol, she is little and it might make her sick. Just stick to ice cubes during the day and lots of chew toys...if she seems to be in pain, I would call the vet and see what they suggest.
It will pass...I can empathize, Riley is teething...she is getting a ton of teeth in, but she doesn't seem to be bothered by it...just chewing on everything.

Re: Teething Puppy Question....
Dogs don't have a high tolerance to alcohol at all so I definitely wouldn't go down that route.
Best bet is just wait it out. It will pass. Also, we got peanut a rope toy that she could naw on which seemed to help her a lot.

Re: Teething Puppy Question....
I am so sorry Daisy is teething with such pain and discomfort. Jasmine is going through this too and had blood on her Chilly bone the other day... UGH! I felt so bad. Sometimes they are so picky with what they chew but have you given her small pieces of rawhide? We have 3 going at all times, it helps to give her them to chew too. I know I posted back but the frozen Kongs are good too I recently heard. I do frozen carrots for Jasmine along with a ton of toys. It is a phase but I heard sometimes teeth get stuck and they need surgery or an extraction..maybe this is what is happening with Daisy...I would take her to the vet to make sure all is normal. GOOD LUCK!
