Putting bumpers on the crib and I am soo confused...Q esp. for those that have sleigh cribs...

Ok, why am i having such a hard time with this? I think they need to come with instructions

So first - if you have a sleigh crib that is solid wood on the ends how do you tie the ones on the end to get them to stay back and and front? I tried but it doesn't lay flat against the back of the crib-more like upright - is that ok?

Also do you put the bumpers on first and then the mattress to flatten it down - if that makes sense - so that there is no space b/w or do you just lay the bumpers against the mattress even though there is a little space? Thanks so much!!
