Q for moms that use the Gerber Nuk Nipples

This is a very stupid q. I just started giving DS bottles from him being EBF for 6 mos so forgive my ignorance. I use the glass evenflo bottles so i am not sure if this is an issue of the nipple not fitting right. We used to use the Level II Dr. Brown's nipples but he isn't taking bottles so thought we would try this.

Here is the q - the nipple sticks out about a centimeter from the white nozzle thing at the top of the bottle. its like a straight thing of plastic before the curved nipple part begins - is it supposed to stick out like this and is DS supposed to have his mouth just around the curved nipple or around the whole thing including this part up to the white thingy. Does this make sense?
