Queens DRivers: Question for ya !

How do you get from Astoria to Jericho and/ or Northern Blvd without using the parkways ? (local streeets)

ETA: Just asking so that if someone wants to come out to Long Island (north shore/suffolk) from AStoria without parkways, which road would be best. thanks !

She just started driving and doesnt feel comfortable taking the parkways just yet.

To be honest with you all. Anna posted this on my behalf. DH has anxiety and one of his fears is driving on the highways/parkways. I don't drive cuz I fear the whole concept totally.

We all have fears and phobias and I am not ashamed to say that my husband has anxiety. If he can't drive on the parkways then so be it. I will support him no matter what. My support is very important to him.

Thanks for your suggestions ladies. We want to try Northern Blvd. DH's brother suggested that to him...We live closer to Northern than we do to jericho turnpike...

Have any of you ladies ever done the Norther Blvd. Route all the way out to LI?

My DH does the Northern Blvd route to and from work on occasion (Bayside area). It's a lot better than Jericho Tpke IMO. But there are a lot of lights and traffic can be bad at certain times. But he prefers this because its a straight run, where as the Northern Pkwy or LIE are 5 miles or more south. Once your past, say CW Post, it gets better. We live just north of Northern Blvd

I've taken Northern all the way to/from Long Island/Manhattan, it will take you forever with lights and traffic, etc... but it can be done.

I did it when I was younger for no other reason than I liked to drive around and I guess we were "cruising"

I dont drive the highway. I will drive northern blvd everywhere. Same goes for my mom. My mom takes northern all the way out to the mall and even further. Once you get used to it, it doesnt even take that long. Both of us are scared of the highway..it may take longer than the highway but at least we feel safer. More to look at too on northern LOL
