Question about 5 year old boys

I have one. a 5 year old boy. Up until about a month ago thsi 5 year old boy was the sweetest thing ever, loving, caring, never argued, never backchatted...and then one day...poof, that boy vanished and a horrible, mean, snotty, sarcastic, violent little boy took his place.....

So I mentioned this to his teacher, who noticed no difference, and I mentioned this to another mother, and she told me this...She says that 5 year old boys often get their first surge of testosterone and they often can get them every 6 months or so. Has anyone else heard of this or been through this?

The last few days the boy has been a lot nicer, and kinder, and seeems to have gotten over the bad seed period...but I was wondering if anyone else know about this??

DS just turned 5 2 weeks ago. The month preceding his birthday was pure hell.

Re: Question about 5 year old boys

Roman turned 5 in January. I have noticed these traits lately on and off and have chalked it up to some of the kids he spends time with in school who have older siblings, but I guess that makes sense because it's not a constant thing.Chat Icon

Re: Question about 5 year old boys

As a Pre-K teacher with my class turning 5 after Jan.; I have noticed this in a few of the boys that have had bdays all ready.

They started the year quiet, sweet, shy and typical & here/there have gotten aggressive, back talking and sneaky.

funny - my son was exactly as you described and starting at 5 or right before it has all been downhill...never heard of that - I wonder....He is 6 now and it comes and goes but at home seems like bad has been more than good since - I miss my sweet innocent, well mannered boy. It is only at home though - never at school - the teacher was shocked when I told her how he is at home - good and bad I guess...

Re: Question about 5 year old boys

My son turned five in March and I have noticed this as well. He is talking back and throwing tantrums which he never did before. Interesting.
