Question about bedtimes

I've seen a few posts about sleeping habits, and bedtimes so I thought I'd ask the BTDT moms.

How do I get my 3 month old to go to sleep earlier? I work fulltime - I get home @ 7:00pm. My DH gets home around 7:30pm.

I feel like by the time we get home, eat and settled it's 10:00pm - which is DD's current bedtime. I know it needs to be earlier because she gets tired, I just don't know what I can do to change it.

Is anyone else in this position? Any ideas?

Re: Question about bedtimes

We get home between 5:30pm - 6pm and Jake is in bed by 7, 7:30 the latest. He gets fed, bathed (every other night), and is in bed by then. Granted, our playtime with him is limited, but he needs to be in bed by then or he'll let us know he's had it.

So, since you get home at 7, I think it would be reasonable to try and set a bedtime of 8:30 - 9:00. Is there a step that you have to do that I'm missing?

The only other thing I can tell you that might help is that we don't eat our dinner until he's gone to bed. DH and I take turns preparing dinner while the other is getting the baby ready for bed. So by the time I'm done feeding the baby, dinner is just about ready.

Thanks - I appreciate your response!

I think my mistake is that I make dinner, and prep for the next day before I start Emma's bedtime routine - That's why it gets so late.

Re: Question about bedtimes

Our schedule is similar to Avocado's... we both get home between 5 and 5:30pm. I play with Alex for about an hour. Then I feed her some squash/cereal, change her diaper, play with her for 20 minutes or so and then give her the last bottle of day. She goes to bed generally between 7 and 8pm most nights. After she goes to bed we make dinner and prep for the next day and I'm usually in bed by 10pm. I'd say when you get home, do your routine with the baby first before you make dinner or any preparations for the next day...

If her last feeding is before 7:00pm, what time is she waking up to be fed again?

Ahhh, well, this has been an issue for a while now. She'll wake up at 12am no matter what - if we put her to bed at 6pm, 7pm, or even 10pm, she always wakes up at 12am. We just started using CIO and now she's sleeping from 7pm-12am and then from 12:10am-7am.

Re: Question about bedtimes

My son is older (12 months), but I get home at 6:45 and have made our routine:

7:00 - dinner
7:30 - bath
7:45-8:30 - get into pjs, play a little (more for ME than him!) and read a story

8:30 he goes into his crib awake and i say goodnight, i love you and close the door.

As long as he's not fussing too much, that's when I make DH dinner, clean up and prep for the next day. Also while DS is playing in his room after his bath, I set out his clothes for the next day.
