Question about calorie intake-this might be a dumb question
i'm just a few weeks preggo...at this early in the game, are you supposed to consume more calories than normal??? I gained almost 5lbs when ttc, so i kind of want to watch what i'm eating. I don't want to get too big too fast!

Re: Question about calorie intake-this might be a dumb question
i'm 12 weeks on monday and i ate like i normally did and only gained 2lbs in a month. i try not to eat big meals- but lots of snacks throughout the day... i.e. 6am wake up- english muffin/cereal 8am- orange/glass of choco milk 9am/10am- yogurt 11am- granola bar 12pm- lunch
i'm sure you get it by now! lol eating smaller meals also helps minimize the nausea too.... hope this helps and congrats!

you only need an extra 300 calories a day (which isn't a lot) and even then not until the 2nd trimester.

Re: Question about calorie intake-this might be a dumb question
For now, just make sure you're getting 2 servings of dairy (at least) a day. That's the main thing. And your prenatal vitamin of course.
When you go for your first doctor's appointment, you can talk to them about your personalized pregnancy diet plan and how much they want you to consume. Mine told me to just up my dairy and everything else I can keep the same but I was already overweight when I got pregnant. He said he expected me to gain between 25 and 35 lbs the whole pregnancy, and I gained exactly in there. I asked a lot of questions about what to eat or what not to eat. They never once talked to me about my weight the whole pregnancy -- I just kept tract of it myself (I mean, they weighed me, but the doctor never said anything other than that I was doing "perfect" the whole time... despite feeling like a hippo from about halfway on...).

This is what I do. Also, listen to your body. When you are hungry, eat but just don't go overboard. And the advice on the small meals that a previous post mentioned is great advice too.
