Question about car seats, especially if you have leather seats

I had one of our car seat/base checked before our baby arrives and now its all set, I'm worried about it ripping the leather seats because its so tight.

Can I put anything underneath it, like a towel or sheet or something?

I want to do it before we get the other car checked so we don't have to re-do it ourselves.

We have leather seats too. They sell car seat protectors at BBB and BRU.

http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14957502&

They have ones that cover the bottom of the seat under the car seat and the entire back of the seat.

We have leather seats and never had any issues with ripping and the car seats are in tight! A slight indention maybe but that goes away once the car seat is moved - faced foward, etc...

same here. and honestly, they're going to be in a car seat or booster until around age 4--by that point i will have a new car so i don't care what happens to the seat--but no issues in a year so far.

It isn't really safe to put anything under a carseat, the seat is not crash tested with it, therefore, it canmake it unsafe.

I have leather seats and we have a seat protector underneath our carseat. And before anyone says you're not suppose to have anything underneath the car seat I can assure you that the carseat is VERY tight and VERY secure and going nowhere. It is held by the LATCH system and it's tethered to the floor as well. My seats will probably still be dented but at least they won't rip. Chat Icon

Our car seat is held by the latch system as well. I didnt know it was "unsafe" to put a car seat protector under it.

"Unsafe" is the perfect way to say it, it isn't crash tested, so they don't know what would happen in the event of a (god forbid) crash. Could be fine, could not....

So far , ( we have leather seats) our seats are 100% fine with nothing underneath ( 2 years later)....But they do sell those under seat things. I cannot see how they could be harmful in a crash either , but you can ask the car seat inspector..

Yes, they are "unsafe". My husband who is a PO trained in car seat safety/installation said that they are a "no-no" for the same fact that Kate stated...NO car seat is crash tested with one of them underneath the seat, making them unsafe because the fact of what happens in the event of a crash is unknown.
