Do you have to work in the county you live in or can you work in another county?
Thanks.

Re: Question about Civil Service jobs

I think you have to work in the county it is in. I have a friend who works for Nassau County Medical Center (hospital in East Meadow) and she told me you have to live in Nassau to work there and no other county. I would ask before you apply what the qualifications for residency are.

Re: Question about Civil Service jobs

It depends. Many state jobs dont have residency restrictions. Most county jobs do. There are exceptions. My friend is a suffolk county probation officer which is a state job however if she were to move to nassau she would have to seek a tranfer to nassau county. On the other hand, my DH is a county employee for Nassau BOCES...it was a direct hire (did not require a test) and he was allowed to not live in nassau. However, he is limited when it comes to promotions as the hire positions in his field require that he live in Nassau.

It depends on the position. Some allow you to live in other counties, some don't. It usually says it on the position announcement.
