Question about Crib Mattress Cover

DS's crib is finally here, and as I'm "dressing" the mattress, both mattress pads I bought seem too thick or puffy. I know it is recommended that infants sleep on a very firm mattress/surface, and we spent a lot of money on his mattress, and now I feel like the cover is just making it too poofy.

Question is, should I even use a mattress pad/cover, or just put the fitted crib sheet over the vinyl cover around the mattress?

If not, which mattress pad/cover would you recommend?

Thanks!

Re: Question about Crib Mattress Cover

I don't use a mattress cover, I just put the sheet directly on the mattress. The mattress has a vinyl cover and to me, it's easier to wipe down and clean the mattress than to have one more thing to wash if he throws up or pees in the crib.

Sometimes, when I know he is sick, I use the sheet covers - the Ultimate sheet or whatever it's called and I can take those off and replace them - they have a vinyl layer on the bottom and protect the mattress too.

I got a really smooth mattress cover that fits tight on the mattress and I put the sheet on top of it. I couldn't just put the sheet directly over a vinyl mattress...

Re: Question about Crib Mattress Cover

We actually use two mattress covers and two sheets. If you layer them cover, sheet, cover, sheet, then when DC makes a TMI mess in the middle of the night, you just rip off the dirty top sheet and cover, and there is a nice clean set ready to go. You can do the bed up again during the day, and not at 3 am.... Chat Icon
