question about dog diarrhea

ok tell me if this answer is from vet makes sense... my dog has diarrhea since sat on and off (after groomer who is awesome, but it was his 1st time going there) she says the diarrhea mostly was caused by stress from a new groomer (he has been to old groomer 2 times). did this ever happen and does it make sense its now Friday (almost a week)? I also did his 1st K9 advantix treatment a couple days b4 diarrhea started)......

chicken and rice binds him up so that helps....

he is acting normally otherwise, playful. nutty etc (his normal 7 month old puppy self)

she gave him antobiotics...
any comments?

Re: question about dog diarrhea

i guess it could make sense but i would wonder why it is still going on for almost a week - could he have picked something up at the groomers, like a virus? i am suprised the vet doesn't want to run tests after more than a few days.

ETA: i would also wonder about a vet that gave my dog antibiotics without doing bloodwork first.

Re: question about dog diarrhea

yea i agree,,,,, with all u said. well they already gave him flagyl there (my husband took him to vet) they said it could be colitis from stress of groomer. hmmmm, not too happy w/ answer. although he was given alot of organic treats so maybe it was too much for his tummy, but still...... 5-6 days later......

they said he should be good as new in 72 hours (so he wil have 3 flagyl pills total ... although he is prescribed for 7 days. )... so we will see what happens come monday when i start weening in his doggie food..... then if prob still, i will get 2nd opinion....
good plan?
anything else u could suggest?

That is a long time for it to be going on, but as long as he remains otherwise normal, is drinking plenty of water, and seems to be getting better instead of worse, your plan sounds good.

Re: question about dog diarrhea

well he seemeed to have much much much more solid poopie yesterday and i was so excited...... but them in middle of night it went back to 1/2 solid then diarrhea.... then diarrhea again... i gave him a tablespoon of yogurt last nite so maybe he wasnt ready for it yet. i thought the yogurt would help his little digestive path but i think i made him worse (since he seemed to be already healing)...... so maybe he was healing and i interrupted the healing process. i guess it was stupid of me to give him dairy during diarrhea recovery...

some dogs are soooo sensitive to food changes. if the chicken and rice was working, I would stick to that until he seems 100% better, and then start slowly working his regular food back in. poor guy...i hope he is all better very soon!
