question about DTaP vaccine
Is this a combo vaccine? My Ped told me he doesnt do combo vaccines but then mentioned that at my sons 6 wk appt. he will get the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine. I completely didn't realize that it's usually given as DTaP so I didn't think to ask him if they have a single vaccine or it is always given as a combo....does anyone have any experience with this?
I'm so nervous about giving my baby more than one vaccine at a time and combo vaccines scare me.

Re: question about DTaP vaccine
I think it's a combo- Diphtheria, Tetnus and Pertussis (whooping cough)
If it makes you feel better, DD had no reaction at all to it - and she has had it twice already I think.
Just remember that the diseases it's vaccinating against are scary things- so it's important you are getting him immunity. I know I hate giving her vaccines too- but I just try to think of the big picture.

Re: question about DTaP vaccine
DS just got his 3rd dose...Never had any problems. Some vaccines have to be combo's.

Re: question about DTaP vaccine
The most important component of this vaccines is the P (pertussis) which does not come as a monovalent vaccine so the only way to get it is as DTaP.
ETA: This is the only vaccine I would give to her at that time.

Re: question about DTaP vaccine
Thanks ladies.
I'm almost positive the ped wants to give him that vaccine first and he mentioned giving Hib also but since it's a combo I'm going to have just the DTaP done at the next appointment.
I'm all for vaccines, just not too many at once.
