Question about East Meadow (updated at bottom)
went to look at some houses in East Meadow tonight, seems like a nice enough area. Someone I know commented to me that the area is "changing"...can anyone give me more info on this or know if this is true. She didnt have any info to back it up though, just wanted to know what your thoughts were on the area...especially those of you who live or have family there.

Re: Question about East Meadow
changing? Not from what I have seen. the school district is a good one and so is the town. I am in westbury/salisbury with east meadow schools , I border with east meadow. I am not sure what your friend meant but it is a nice area.

Re: Question about East Meadow
DH and I are currently in contract on a house in East Meadow. Every person that I or my family comes across that lives there says that they love it. When we were still house-hunting there was always someone that had something to say about every town we looked into. I'd keep in mind what they are saying, but research the area, drive around the town, etc. to get an idea if it is some place you could see yourself living. Good luck!

Re: Question about East Meadow
My mom has friends that live across from the hospital (across on the other side of Hemp TPK) and they lived there for decades and love it. When I visit them I find it to be a great quiet area.

Re: Question about East Meadow
We bought a house in East Meadow ten months ago. I love it here. We live off of Newbridge Road, and my neighborhood is great. The schools have an excellent reputation. The highways are really close, which makes for a great commute, but I can hear crickets in my yard. Taxes aren't awful. Lots of young families in my neighborhood.
Good luck house hunting!

Re: Question about East Meadow
I live near East Meadow and have friends who live there and it seems like a lot of people stay there for the long term. Im not sure about the "changing" its still a nice area. Hempstead Turnpike is not indicative of the area keep in mind a lot of people shop on HT from other neighborhoods...not sure if that is what your friend meant.

Re: Question about East Meadow
Thanks so much for all your responses....truth is, It was my MIL who made that comment and she acted so matter of fact about it. Her "reasoning" behind it was...."the area by the hospital dosnt look good when you drive by"....which, based on all your responses I take it as not being true. I know you can't tell by the Tpke, and I have seen the areas behind the hospital and off of Newbridge Rd. which I feel are very nice.
It pisses me off that she makes comments like that with nothing to back it up....she also followed her comment by saying..."you should probably look on the north shore because those areas aren't changing much"...which, no offense...even if i found a house for mad cheap in one of the best areas on the north shore I would not want to move there. I wouldnt feel like DH and I would fit in there. DH told MIL that we can't afford a house on the North Shore and she simply said..."well then maybe you arent really ready".....OMG, you dont know how fuming I was....we both make an excellent living, only b/c I am bogged down in student loans we have to look for houses in the lower end costwise. This is fine with me....this is the best time to get a good deal on a home and we are going to take advantage of it.
sorry just needed to vent

sorry just needed to vent I love to ask people who haven't bought a house in 10 years + the following question:
"could you afford to buy your house today"?
I usually get a blank stare

Re: Question about East Meadow (updated at bottom)
I wouldn't listen to your MIL. East Meadow is a very nice place to live even by the hospital when my moms friends live. I always used to drive through on Jerusalem Rd and Merrick Ave to go to Uniondale every weekend and found it growing and very nice houses with manicured lawns. I would go for it if you find something you can afford. Don't let anyone tell you different. Good luck on your search!!

Re: Question about East Meadow (updated at bottom)
They are building a Mosque in East Meadow. All the religious people are moving in (i dont' know what religion attend Mosques... sorry, i am not religious). If this sort of thing bothers you... I don't know if this is what your friend is referring to.

Re: Question about East Meadow (updated at bottom)
by the hospital and near the jail- if you drive in there, it becomes Salisbury and the homes off stewart and Salisbury park drive would blow away your MIL. they are like the houses on stewart ave in garden city!
