Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
So tonight DH and I dyed our easter eggs. We don't eat them, just dye them for the fun and for decoration.
He's telling me that the hard boiled eggs can be kept out all the time, and dont need to be in the fridge.
I say no, they need to go in the fridge, they're going to STINK. He thinks because they are cooked, and we're not going to eat them, its okay. I think he's nuts.
Am I wrong?

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
I think we always kept them in the fridge until the night before Easter. Then, after they were hidden and found the next morning, they'd stay in the basket for a few hours, go into the fridge, and become egg salad by Monday. One year, we missed one, and followed our noses 'til it was found. Definitely keep them in the fridge.

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
I don't really know the answer, but to be on the safe side, I'd keep them in the fridge.

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
Ok, as gross as it is, we always kept them out when I was growing up, HOWEVER, we never ate them. Just dyed them for fun. They lasted a week, easily.

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
Just think about the lone egg that got lost when it was hidden for the Easter Egg hunt but wasn't found.....until a few weeks later the stink in the corner of the living room was from the beautiful hard boiled egg that has been rotting for weeks!!!
They need to be refrigerated!!

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
When I googled Hard Boiled Egg Storage...every site said to store in the refrigerator for up to one week. None said you could store them at room temperature.

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
We always left them out in a decorative basket - never put them in the fridge
I think we kept them out for a few days before and a few days after easter and it was fine

We always put ours in the fridge. I'd go with Gerty's google search.

Same for us too. I am going to avoid dying eggs as long as possible. I freaking hate the smell of boiled eggs and the vinegar to dye them. I guess that loses me the Mother of the Year award.

Re: Question about easter eggs - settle a debate
They can be kept out. As a matter of fact, unless eggs - raw or otherwise- have already been refrigerated, they can be kept out as well.
Storing eggs in the refrigerator lengthens their shelf life though.

Only eggs that have NOT been refrigerated previously, can be left out not in the refrigerator. Once they are refrigerated they must always be....

That is what I said - unless they were already refrigerated, they can be kept out.
I just didn't say it as well as you did.
