Booster Seat Question!

Does anyone have a booster seat with the 5-point harness? We actually have about 4 booster seats for DD [not to mention the 2 my MIL has and the 2 in FL!!], but they are the ones with just the seat belt.

At any rate, baby #2 is due in 9 weeks and DH has a 2 door car. I am thinking of purchasing the pricey harness type but I am wondering one thing: Do you use the harness AND the seat belt to secure the chiild or is the booster seat held on [like a carseat] by the belt? I am confused b/c while looking at them online, it mentions the harness AND loops for the seat belt.

The whole point of getting it would be so that DD [who will be 6 but is FAR from the 4'9" and/or 80 pound gov't requirements] won't have to struggle as much in his car to secure herself. If you have to use both, then it's a waste for me really. [his car doesn't have LATCH either I dont' think...]

TIA.

Re: Booster Seat Question!

lif memeber Tany just recommened this booster seat to me the other day. she bought one for her dd and i just bought 2 of them, for my dd and ds. they just arrived yesterday. they look awesome. they are by cosco. they have a 5 point harness and then you can use it as a seat belt booster when they reach the height and weight requirements. they are on sale right now at amazon.com. orginally they were $80, they are on sale for $37.

Re: Booster Seat Question!

I have this one for my 4 1/2 year old

Apex 65

It has an internal harness up to 65 lbs. After that its a seat belt booster. It's a great booster IMO, the only other one I looked at was the Britax Regent but it was way too big, even for my minivan (I have 2 other kids in carseats in there as well)

Re: Booster Seat Question!

No, you don't have to use both. You use the seat belt to restrain the car seat itself and then the harness for the child.

My DD is 8 and onlye 47 lbs. She is in a booster with no back that uses just the seatbelt to secure her. She has been in it since she was about 35 - 37 lbs. It's made for 30 lbs. and over.

I probably could have kept my DD in a harness system longer but she's too old ! !

The reasoning for the harness and belt positioning loops is for when you remove the harness system and use the seat belt. If the belt isn't positioned the right way it could do damage to the child if ever in an accident. That's part of the reason for the 4'9" rule.

HTH ! ! !
