Question about fetal heart monitor
ok, at the risk of sounding silly
if you use it, how do you know it's not your own heartbeat that you hear??
TIA

Re: Question about fetal heart monitor
His heartbeat was about double the rate of mine. His heartnbeat sounded like a horse galloping. Try really low near your pubic bone and slowly work your way up. It should be easy to find this way.

The ones in BRU/BBB say you should wait till the 3rd trimester, but I have heard from people who have used it earlier and have had success.

Re: Question about fetal heart monitor
My doctor strongly advised against getting one of these b/c we are all novices who don't know how to use them She said she didn't want to get calls and have to send me to L&D because I couldn't find the baby's heartbeat.

Re: Question about fetal heart monitor
I started using it at about 11 weeks and I've never had a problem finding the baby's HB. It's unmistakable and as someone said, it sounds EXACTLY like a galloping horse. It's twice as fast as your own HB so once you hear it you will know for sure you're not hearing your own HB. I highly recommend the fetal monitor, it kept me sane in those weeks (wks. 14-19) where my symptoms had gone away and I wasn't feeling the baby move yet. I've heard the one they sell at BRU is awful so I would rent it online. I got mine at BabyBeat.com
