Question about first words
So DD lately has been saying "maa, maa, maa" all the time. Yesterday, I was saying to her "say mama" and she was saying it ....I was shocked....
How do you determine what their first words are as opposed to them just babbling? Thanks

Re: Question about first words
I count it as a first word when they use it with meaning and consistently use it to refer to something. If she's just indiscriminately saying mama then it's just babbling, but if she uses it to refer to you then it would be a word. It's good that she's imitating you saying mama, but she probably hasn't connected the meaning with it yet.

Yeah that is what I was thinking, she has not connected me as being mama yet....it was still so cute.
This morning...DH was feeding her and he was saying "say dada" and I heard her on the monitor saying "maaa, maaaa"
that's my girl
