Question about Frontline w/ ticks
On the box it says that it kills ticks. Does that mean that it has to bite the dog first?
One of the main reasons I have not taken Oreo for as many walks as I should is we live in Eastern Suffolk (tick territory). Oreo has black hair and is low to the ground. I am concerned about ticks hitching a ride into our apartment (already happened once). I have been bitten before, although I was lucky enough not to get lymes disease, it was not fun trying to get the sucker off me. Oreo is protected, we aren't.

Re: Question about Frontline w/ ticks
There is a great insert from the State of New York that we got in Newsday last week. There are hardly any lyme disease instances on Long Island. With Frontline the tick dies while trying to dig into the dog. If you find a tick on yourself within 36 hours it hasn't had time to transmit lyme to you even if it is a carrier.

That is great that they are saying there is hardly any lime on LI. How are they coming up with this? I thought we had the highest cases of Lyme (or do we just have the highest cases of ticks)?
Any links for this above article?
As you know, ticks really scare me so I want to know all I can.

Re: Question about Frontline w/ ticks
I just cut and paste this from Frontline's website.
3. Do fleas and ticks have to bite my pet for FRONTLINE Brand Products to work? Fleas and ticks do not have to bite your pet for FRONTLINE Brand Products to work. FRONTLINE Brand Products kill fleas and ticks if they simply come into contact with your pet's hair coat. The fleas will die within 18 hours of contact with your treated pet, and ticks will die within 48 hours.
What bothers me about this is though, if it takes 48 hours to kill the ticks on the dogs, then there would likely be enough time for the dog to get Lyme, since I just read on a tick website anywhere from 24-48 hours they can transmit Lyme. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Re: Question about Frontline w/ ticks
Here is the link for rate of Lyme disease per 100,000 people
Note that Columbia County, Greene County and the Hudson Valley area have MUCH higher rates.
And here is the link for general Lyme disease info
