Question about Full Service Gas Station

How much are you supposed to tip the attendant? Are you supposed to tip them?

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I don't tip them and I only go to full service stations, unless it is really icy/snowy/rainy out and I feel bad for them

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I've only tipped once - $1 - the owner made his son pump the gas and I felt bad. The kid must've been 12! (how illegal is that?!)

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I go to the same gas station all the time-and I tip $1-$2 dollars everytime I gas up-but I've been going there for years...and they've been awesome; they told me twice that one of my tires was too low and filled it up for me, once my oil light was on and they poured a bottle in for me to hold me over until I get an oil change and they didn't charge me....oh he told me when my tail light was out and he replaced it for me for $5 bucks...

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I don't tip the gas attendant and I go to full-service gas stations almost always since I usually have the baby in the car with me. I have 2 stations that I usually go to, depending on which direction I am heading in.

I have only tipped the guys a few times. Once when I bought a bottle of winshield washer fluid and the guy put it in for me....and then a few other times when I was literally waiting for them as they opened up at 6am since I go to work so early.

However I kinda feel like they should be doing a little bit more in "full service" to get a tip. When I was growing up full service meant that they cleaned your windows if they were a mess, checked your oil, etc. When I first got a car most placed cleaned your windows. Now they don't do any of that at all.

So with gas prices being as high as they are as it is (and yes, I realize it isn't the attendant's fault) I just don't really think I need to tip my attendant.

My town only has full service.

If it's poor weather $1-2. If I would get out & pump it myself in the weather, I don't tip.

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I tip $1, unless they don't round it up - then I give them $1+ whatever was left over.

My thoughts are that $1 isn't really going to affect me that much (especially considering gas these days), but a simple act can make a person feel good about themselves and hopefully they will pay it forward at some time.

Also - the place I go to now, takes VERY good care of me. Chat Icon

I don't tip. The only time I did was when I smoked and they would go in and get me cigarettes.

Re: Question about Full Service Gas Station

I don't tip. I don't see the reason to. This is their jobs. It is not like they are going out of their way to do it for you.
