I'm going for mine today at 5:30. I am DYING for a piece of chocolate. Can I have some or will it throw my sugar levels off

Re: Question about glucose screening
Wait a minute - is this your 1 hr glucose?? They didn't make you fast for it?
Sorry but I would say no, don't eat the chocolate. You don't want to screw up your test only to have to then take the 3-hour test!

Re: Question about glucose screening
I did NOT have to fast for my glucose screening. I also did it about 5:30 p.m. at one of my office visits. They just told me to drink the drink an hour before I came. I ate a normal lunch that day and snacked. How big of a piece of chocolate are you craving? It's only a screening test, so I wouldn't worry, but maybe its best not to

Re: Question about glucose screening
I ate a bowl of regular cheerios with a large spoonful of sugar on top.
I forgot that I was taking the glucose test and I still passed it the first time.

Re: Question about glucose screening
Craving a B I G piece of chocolate but I guess i won't have any . If I have a little piece I will keep going back for more and more and more........................ I guess it's better to forget the chocolate than to have to suffer through the three hour (not too good with blood tests )
Yes, it's my 1 hr and No, I didn't have to fast. The nurse actually made a point of telling me to eat as I normally do throughout the day or my test will get screwed up (not quite sure why).
Wish me luck

Re: Question about glucose screening
Do NOT eat any chocolate bc it will probably throw off the test. Bring a bottle of water with you bc the syrup is so sweet you'll need the water to wash it down.
BTW.... I didn't have to fast either

Re: Question about glucose screening
Regardless of the fasting, I still think you should avoid the chocolate so close to the test just in case. Just delay your craving until after the test - you can do it!

Re: Question about glucose screening
Just so everyoen is aware, a piece of chocolate WILL NOT throw off a glucose test. If the body is producing the right enzymes to break down sugar it should not matter if you have a chocolate bar a few hrs before your test. The amount of sugar that is in the glucose drink FAR surpasses the amount of chocolate in a candy bar. I wouldn't suggest eating an EXTREMELY ridiculous amount because that is not good anyway for the baby (too much caffeine), but a reasonable amount is fine.

Re: Question about glucose screening
Agreed (with emilian)!! I did not have to fast for my 1 hour. I had GD. If you have GD, you have it. You should be able to process the sugars in a piece of chocolate fast enough for your test results are fine.
