Question about glucose test
My appt. is at 9:15am and I was told I could eat before hand. Also, they told me if god forbid I don't pass it (they apparently tell you right then and there) I'll have to take the 3 hour one right away. Does that sound right? All of my friends have had different experiences. Doctors do things so differently. Should I eat maybe just really early? What were your experiences?

Re: Question about glucose test
I had to fast after midnight..my gtt was @ 8am...
I went to the lab, picked my flavor...was told to drink a/s/a/p.. then I sat there for an hour...the drew some blood..and then I left..
I would say I didnt get the results for like 2 days... but I passed..so had I failed I dont know if they wouldve called me sooner...
Good luck! Its not so bad... sitting there bored is the worst part!

Re: Question about glucose test
I was told not to fast for the 1 hour, but I did not get my results until a few days later (I failed).
I DID have to fast for the 3 hour- it doesn;t make sense to me that they would have you take one after the other.
Are you getting it done at a hospital lab? Maybe they get the results right away- but I would still think you would have to fast for at least the 3 hour.

Re: Question about glucose test
for the 1 hr they told me not to eat an hr before the test....I ate a bowl of cheerios and a glass of water about 5-10 minutes before that 1 hr cutoff.
Got my failing test results the next day, had I passed, I would have gotten a postcard in the mail.
Had my 3 hr yesterday which was a fasting after midnight-no food or water and again, I'll get a phone call today whether I pass or fail.

Re: Question about glucose test
Most people I know who ate something (anything) before the one hour test failed...then went on to pass the 3 hour. After hearing this I made sure not to eat, and I passed. I wouldn't eat if you can do it...

Re: Question about glucose test
I was told that I did not have to fast before my one hour...the nurse told me I could have a piece of toast and a cup of coffee (no sugar) before the test.
I didn't have anything to eat or drink past 9 the night before my test (thinking that would be better) and failed my one hour.
When they called to tell me I had failed and needed to take the 3 hour test, they said, had I eaten something like a bagel before the one hour test, I would have passed.
I went back to take my 3 hour test about a week later...and this time they told me to fast and not to eat anything past 8 the night before...I passed the 3 hour.

Re: Question about glucose test
I was told not to eat anything after taking the drink. I had the drink at 10:30 and before that, at around 9:30 I had a toast with cheese and juice and I passed this test.

Re: Question about glucose test
I had to fast before the 1 hr. Got the results a few days later. Had to fast for the 3 hour too. I went to a lab for these tests. They didn't make me take the 3 hr right after having the 1 hr. That sounds strange.

Re: Question about glucose test
Thanks ladies, it's all so confusing, maybe I misunderstood. I think I will have some toast and tea maybe like 6:30 or7am if my test is at 9:15.

Re: Question about glucose test
I took mine at around 7pm at night, after eating all day sicne I was told that fasting and time of day were not important for the 1 hour. They didn't even draw blood afterwards, just did a stick test with the glucose meter, and of course I came up positive. Then they didn't even want me to go get the 3 hour, just automatically said I had GD and sent me to the nutritionist.
Everyone has different opinions on this. Personally I hate the way my office handled it. But I do aggree that I have GD now because I monitor my bs and see the changes with my diet. Let me know if you have any questions.
