Question about humidifier
Logan woke up today with a bloody nose . It's pretty dry in our apt and I've been noticing he's had lots of dry boogies.....the saline drops have been working wonders on them. Sometimes I'll see that they come out dark red like dry blood. Well today, I noticed a little red and when he sneezed, he had blood(red, not dried) on his face...I felt so bad . DH said he used to get pretty bad bloody noses when he was young from the dryness so I think he's got his daddys trait. Would a humidifier work for this?
What brand do you all recommend?

Re: Question about humidifier
Any cool mist humidifier should do the trick. Once things clear up at work, I'll look at my consumer reports subscription to see if they recommend any.
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/appliances/hints-about-humidifiers-905.htm?resultPageIndex=1&resultIndex=6&searchTerm=humidifier
From the ratings, Holmes Harmony, Honeywell and Vornado were the top ratings during their last review (10/04). The Honeywell HWM-530 (which I'm sure has been upgraded) was the Best Buy rating
All were rated excellent in Efficientce, Holmes & Honeywell were rated Good on Humidistat, all were "Good" on Noices. Honeywell was better for Convenience.

Re: Question about humidifier
I tried a humidifier for Stephanos and it didn't work. When I asked the ped about it he said humidifiers are no good for dry noses. Only for croup. He said to use the saline drops. I would try it Beth and see if it works.

I find this a bit odd. Colorado is very dry and they tell us to always run humidifiers for the baby to keep their airways moist.

I found it odd too. It didn't help my son but I obviously would've continued using it if it did. I used my humidifier for over 2 weeks and it didn't help him at all

Re: Question about humidifier
I find that extremely odd.
When Joseph was diagnosed early with RSV, the neonatalogist said to go home and buy 2 cool mist humidifiers, put him in a small room for the entire day - and he'd see if he improved enough the next day or if he needed to be admitted to the hospital. We were lucky it worked. He said it would be the same treatment he'd be getting in a tent in the hospital.
It's not just for colds - we use it every time he comes down with croup too.
