Question about LEEP procedure.
Hi ladies!
Forgive me for intruding, for I am not pregnant. But I have a question that's been bothering me and I thought who better to ask than you ladies.
I'm talking specifically to the ladies who have had, or know someone who's had the LEEP procedure done on their cervix. I had the LEEP done last March, and my gyno says that we shouldn't start trying to conceive till the earliest, this October. She says my cervix needs time to heal in order to hold a pregnancy for 9 months. It just seems like forever to wait, and I know my gyno is looking out for my health as well as the health of my future baby. I'm just wondering if this is the normal amount of time to wait, or if my gyno is on the extreme side of caution with this. And also, ladies who had the procedure done, how has your pregnancy been? Any problems related to having the LEEP procedure done? Any problems conceiving?? (if you don't mind me asking)
TIA everyone!

Re: Question about LEEP procedure.
I had a LEEP in November 06 and got pregnant April 07. We weren't TTC though, it just happened. I had a perfectly normal pregnancy.
ETA: My gyn knew that we were planning to TTC that summer and never said anything about waiting. I also expressed my concerns about the risk of an incompetent cervix after the procedure and he wasn't worried. One of the reasons I kept him as my OB (even though the hospital was not convenient for me) was because I wanted someone who knew my history and knew what to look for in the event of any complications, but I had none.

I'd like to know the answer to this question also. I am not pregnant yet, but I am actively TTC.
I had the LEEP done in 2002 & I am hoping that it will not have an effect on TTC.

Re: Question about LEEP procedure.
Hi Jaclyn!! I have had the LEEP procedure twice. The most recent one was over a year ago. I was not told that I had to wait to conceive but then again, I hadn't asked since DH and I weren't married/TTC yet. I was told when I had the procedure that it does weaken the cervix to some extent. I am 5 weeks PG today and have my first appt. with the OB next Wed. I had planned on asking about the state of my cervix and will ask your question as well. I know you want an answer before then but I'll ask anyway so you get another informed opinion!

That would be great! Thank you so much!!
And thanks ladies for sharing your experiences with me. All your answers are definitely giving me piece of mind. I think my doctor is definitely just trying to scare me with what "could" happen even though it may not be likely.

Re: Question about LEEP procedure.
I was suppose to have the leep done except I got preggers during the coposcopy and the results! I have yet to have it done...but when they told me that I needed it she said I could start trying as soon as I got a healthy pap back. They would wait 3 months from the time of the procedure and if all looked well, I could TTC!! GL

yeah, it sounds as though this is the norm when it comes to waiting. I'm still wondering why she's having me wait so long. I'm thinking I'll call and talk to her about it today. I mean, I'm fine waiting till October to TTC (even though it seems like forever away) but she wont even let me go off my pill now because she's afraid I'll get pregnant. I'm a responsible adult. We can use condoms until the time is right. But she is really giving me a hard time about it.

Well she can't really FORCE you to take the pill if you don't want to. It is YOUR body. If you want to stop taking the pill now & use condoms until October, then that is what you should do. GL!

Re: Question about LEEP procedure.
I had leep done in 2000, completely forgot about it until my DR asked me during our first PG apt if I ever had a procedure done on my cervix. ...
I did have trouble TTC, but don't think it was related to LEEP, -- i had a short LP which is more hormone related than anything to do with cervix.
Hasn't effected my pregnancy at all, except made my Dr more cautious and hence got to have more Ultra Sounds (which is good!)
If I were you, I would stop taking the pill, since it can take a while to get the hormones out of your system from the pill and could cause more delays before you get PG. Just use condoms until Dr says its OK. However, I would follow your dr.'s reccomendation to wait - you may have different circumstances from everyone else here.
