Question about menu/ not feeding meat
DS is 6 months old & has been on stage two foods since 5 1/2 months. Most stage two foods include meat which I do not want to give him until at least 9 months if not 12. I feel like he has no variety & will need the protein. Does anyone have any thoughts/ suggestions? Is anyone else trying to stay away from giving their child meat?

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
Is there a reason you're staying away from meats? I know that I've tried the jarred meats and DS refuses to eat it, but we've given him meatballs and turkey from the table and he'll eat that. If you want to stay away from meat altogether, why don't you add yogurt, pasta and cheese to his diet.

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
I don't give my DD meat yet b/c the idea of jarred baby food repulses me... honestly- as long as they are getting enough forumla i think it is OK- b/c that's where 99% of their nutrients are coming from right now anyway.. I am waiting for DD to cut a tooth OR I'm going to have to make my own meat baby food.

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
He has had some stomach problems & problems sleeping. I think meat is a little harder to digest. Do you think I could try pastina at this age? Jarred foods don't have much to choose from.

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
You can definitley have pastina now. I found that DS actually prefers cut up pieces of ziti to pastina, but he's also a good chewer even though he only has a couple of teeth. I also found that he prefers a tomato sauce to just butter and cheese, which was surprising- I though all kids liked their past with butter.

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
We're raising our daughter vegetarian, and have consulted with pediatricians and a pediatric nutritionist - it's not a problem at all to restrict meat. In fact, for the first year of life, introducing food is really just to get them used to eating real food - it isn't nutritionally necessary at this stage, as they get all of their nutritional needs, including protein, from formula. The concern about protein only comes into play when they wean from formula, around a year.
To supplement for protein we give our daughter plenty of yogurt, milk, beans, tofu and soy products.

Re: Question about menu/ not feeding meat
My kids didn't have meat until they were 9 months old and they didn't like it and probably did't really start eating it until over a year old.
I would give them egg yolks and yogurt but that started at 9 months. They just ahd fruits and veggies before that. I refused to give them jarred meat.
