Question about My Fitness Pal
I just started yesterday. I can stay within my calorie, fat and carb guidelines, but I've been going over on protein, sugar and sodium. I know the sugar and sodium is obviously not good and I have to work harder there, but is going over on protein so bad?

Re: Question about My Fitness Pal
I don't think it's bad at all to go over on protein. Especially if you are working out. I'm actually curious what you are eating because I am like almost never over on my protein, lol!
eta: You can also change the #'s that you want for Protein, Carbs, etc. I know I adjusted mine in the beginning, so now that I think about it, maybe that is why I am never over.

Re: Question about My Fitness Pal
Today I had a lot of protein because I had peanut butter on a whole wheat English muffin for breakfast (12g), I had turkey and cheese on rice cakes for lunch (34g), and then arugula salad, baked potato and grilled chicken for dinner (18g). As high protein as my lunch was, and yummy too, it was killer for my sodium intake (1760mg) in just that meal.

Question about My Fitness Pal
I am over in protein every single day and lose weight 99% of the time (weekly weigh-in). Protein is the best macro to be over with.

Re: Question about My Fitness Pal
That doesn't seem like a whole lot of protein at all---im curious what myfitnesspal is suggesting as your target for protein?
To answer the question about being over on protein, 1 gram of protein has 4 calories just as 1 gram of carbohydrates. Though most people assume being over in carbs is worse, it actually is basically the same thing AND carbohydrates are thermogenic, meaning they actually cause your metabolism to speed up. When i was tracking my food for competition prep (which was for fat loss) I had to make sure I was in my target for all macros ---fats, carbs and proteins. If I was over in one, I made sure I was under by the same amount calorically in another.

Re: Question about My Fitness Pal
For some reason, when you join MFP, it gives everyone the same macros - 55% carbs, 30% protein, 15% fat.
You can change it to whatever you want - I have it set to 40/30/30.

Re: Question about My Fitness Pal
I'm ALWAYS way over my proteins. But I workout a TON so I don't worry about it.
