Question about Oil- C.O.D vs. service contract w/ lock in option
How do you decide which is better for you? Do you just get your oil COD and deal with cleanings/situations that arise separately, or do you sign up for a service contract so that everything is basically handled by the same company?
Is C.O.D really risky b/c the market may start picking up again and oil prices could get crazy again? How did you decide which was best for you? (sorry if any of these are stupid questions- we're completely new to this! )

Re: Question about Oil- C.O.D vs. service contract w/ lock in option
We were in contract with a company for a year and our contract was just up for renewal. We just cancelled it and willing to take the risk of seeing where the prices go. As you may have noticed, the prices are the pump are getting higher but we are only hoping this is only for the Summer. We are looking for a company for servicing when needed. This option of being locked in a contract didn't work for us and we were not very happy with the company either. I'd advise to look into the different options and see what works for your family best. What may be good for one person will not necessarily works for the next. Good Luck !!

we do COD only & pay for routine service. There is some risk that your system may stop working in the middle of a cold night & you'll have to pay whatever they tell you to fix it. For us its a good gamble, at the height of the crazy oil prices I was paying $1.50 less per gallon than most people with contracts, that adds up fast. We use JC Discount in Coram

We pay COD. Our system was the origional and not in great shape so we replaced and have a warranty God forbid anything goes wrong.

Re: Question about Oil- C.O.D vs. service contract w/ lock in option
I am with Heat USA which is an oil buying cooperative.
They do deliveries for cheaper than what most people are paying for lockins, and I get a free service contract.
Plus there are no contracts so if I am not happy with them I can get rid of them at any time.
If you have to make a decision soon but aren't sure what you want to do, I would go this route.
It gets you covered if anything goes wrong with your boiler, and you get relatively cheap oil deliveries.
