Question about Peditricians
As im getting further along - im starting to think about peditricians.....
Should I go to a peditrician of my choice before the baby is born to get better aquainted? What type of questions do I ask?
I have a peditrician that we would like to take our baby to (my family recommends him), but would it be okay if I see him after the baby is born - or should he know that im pregnant and expecting in the coming months etc.....
im alittle confused.....
how soon after the birth is the baby's first doctor's appointment? What happens at their first appointment?

Re: Question about Peditricians
My pediatricians were recommended to me by several friends, so I didn't feel the need to go and "interview" them. However, I did call them a couple of weeks before I was due to let them know I'd be using them. The receptionist said it was unnecessary and just to let the hospital staff know (I wrote the name and number and put it in my hospital bag), that way the doctor would see my baby on his rounds. So that's what I did.
You need to take the baby to the doctor 2 days after he/she comes home. They weigh and measure the baby, take the temperature, do a brief exam (check for hip displasia, etc.) ask if you have any questions and basically that's it! You'll probably go back two weeks after that and then every month.

Re: Question about Peditricians
my peditrician is a good friend of ours, but I know he offers new parent seminars to get familiar with him and his practice (and to help you decide if you want to use him, I guess).
If I wasn't using a friend, I would want to meet the ped prior to giving birth to make sure I was comfortable with them.
