Question about PIO

Ok- Did my injection class yesterday and holy cow that needle looks really big !....After reading some other posts, I saw some of you guys use something called EMLA to numb the area...What is this and can you buy it OTC or is it prescription???...Also, is the pain from the actual injection worse than the pain you feel afterwards in your opinion???....I know I don't have a choice and will do whatever I need to but I need to know what to expect (probably making myself crazy for no reason as usual- Im usually a trooper about this kind of stuff but that needle freaked me out for some reason!!!!)...Thanks !

Re: Question about PIO

The needle, although big, isn't bad at all. It hurts no more than the stomach injections...I promise.
It's the after that was worse for me...my butt would be sore in that spot for days.
I never used an analgesic, but I did warm the PIO in a small bath of hot water for a few minutes before drawing it into the needle.

exactly what Gerty said......use a warm compress in the area....it makes the oil go in more easy.

I know that needle looks HUGE, but I find the sores it leaves is more painful than the shot itselfChat Icon

Re: Question about PIO

The PIO shot only hurt me once or twice - that's when DH hit a blood vessel and had to pull it out and go in again. Chat Icon

But twice in 8+ weeks of taking it every day wasn't bad.

I bought one of those eye masks with the seeds/corn kernels in it and would heat that in the microwave for a few minutes and put it on my butt for about 5 minutes before the shot.

The warmth made it go in easier and I never had any lumps or bumps.
