question about preventing identity theft & credit reports
my son's car was burgularized(sp) & of course he had ID, a bank book(closed account) & other stuff in it. I remember hearing something about putting a block on your credit so nobody can apply on your name.....help me out with any info you have please.

Re: question about preventing identity theft & credit reports
I think you call Transunion or one of those credit places and Yes its an option that you get, for 2 yrs, he will have to show ID everytime he uses a card and may also experience a harder time when applying for a credit card. It also stops solicitors from calling and the preaaproved junk mail.

Re: question about preventing identity theft & credit reports
Posters here told me that you can call the credit unions and have a password protect your credit, so it's harder to apply for cards and such.
Sorry this happened to him- it sucks!

I think what you want is a fraud alert added. I had that done years ago when my purse was stolen from a friend's car. They basically go through more steps to verify your identity before releasing information. Sometimes this includes not being able to access your credit report on-line until you call in or fax in certain info.
DH has a fraud alert too and had to fax in a copy of his passport to gain access to an on-line 3-in-1 credit report.
