Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
I have a question. After I delivered my baby, the only thing that got checked on me was my temp and BP. My SIL just had my nephew, and said that the nurses and the dr checked her so many times and pushed on her stomach. One of my nurses said that she was going to come in and push on my stomach, but never did. Is this bad that I never had this done? What is it done for? Thanks!

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
I don't know if it's bad that they didn't check you. They did come in & press on my stomach a few times to check the position of my uterus.

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
They only pushed on mine right after I had DD, to help deliver the placenta.
The OB felt my abdomen once before I was discharged to make sure my uterus was shrinking. I didn't get a nurse to come in and push on it.

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
They push on your stomach for the placenta to come out and to check your uterus. I am sure everything is fine.

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
They did it to me right after delivery and in the couple of hours after, but once I was in my room they didn't do it anymore.
Which, come to think of it, was weird b/c my uterus wasn't shrinking.

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
There not really checking to see if your uterus is "shrinking". It naturally returns to its normal size. They are checking for position and if it is hard. It's supposed to continue contracting after delivery to control the bleeding. If your uterus for some reason stayed relaxed you would be at risk for hemorraghing. Someone should have been checking at least once or twice after you delivered but if there was a problem you probably would have other symptoms like a drop in blood pressure or just out of control bleeding.

Re: Question about pushing on your stomach after delivery
yup, to make sure your uterus is shrinking and to losen up any aferbirth that may still be hanging on, They like to get it out before d/c because if it stays intact you risk the chance of running a fever since it is a a foregin body inside of you and that could be dangerous.
