My son is almost 16 months old and walks all over the place...
The only shoes he owns are robeez...do i need to get him different shoes?
Are wearing robeez all the time bad?
Any feedback would be appreciated!!

Re: question about robeez/shoes

I would get him a nice walking shoe from Stride Rite. I just got Jared shoes yesterday and he's 12 months. The lady said the best things for kids is to be barefoot, but if you're going to get him a shoe...have them measure his foot...I never knew anything about double e width or anything like that...

Re: question about robeez/shoes

My sister's Pediatrician said her son needed to be measured for good walking shoes, it's the best thing for them.
ETA: Robeez are not good all the time.

It sounds like he is ready for a walking shoe, I got Aidans at Stride Rite and still get most of his shoes there. Getting the proper size is so important.

But he still also wears Robeez as slippers in the house everyday I just got him a new pair and its the biggest size they make 3-4 yrs, I don't know what I'll do after this! Chat Icon

Re: question about robeez/shoes

I thought Robeez would be fine....

I'm looking at:
http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/88/2/371

If barefoot is best, but we need to provide some level of protection, Robeez seem ideal -- enough to prevent injury from stepping on something scratchy but as close to barefoot as you can get.

Why do people think Robeez are bad?

From what I understand Robeez are fine since they are soft soled and the next best thing to barefoot which is what is recommended.

That's what I always thought. My ped even said something to that effect - that barefoot is best for walking.

My son is also 16 months. I got him some good stride rite shoes/sneakers for walking outside - in the house he wears socks or robeez for the most part. I got the shoes for walking outside pretty much as the weather got nice since we spend most of our days outside. Robeez just don't seem secure enough for the park and stuff.

Re: question about robeez/shoes

I've been asking the same question -- this is what I found out from my pediatrician and an orthopedic surgeon in our family -- at 16 months he's fine with Robeez all the time. The "walking" shoe was recommended for "new" walkers because of the higher boot for ankle stability. Cole learned to walk before we bought his first pair of walking shoes and he actually regressed in them. Now he wears Robeez or shoes that dont have too high of an ankle support outdoors and hes barefoot or in socks indoors.
