Shoes question
this might sound like the STUPIDEST thing, but it always causes me anxiety.
Do you wear heels on the subway?
I have an interview tonight and I have a bad back and I'm not sure how far I'll have to walk, but I know it's several blocks.
Usually when I have a job, I wear sneakers, bring ym shoes, change when I get to the office, but you can't really do that on an interview.
Also, I don't want to have a million bags with me on my interview. I'm considering just wearing sneakers and calling it a day. It makes me crazy and causes undue stress for every manhattan interview I have.
*sigh*
What's your solutiion?

Re: Shoes question
I am so paranoid of falling that I don't wear my heels in the subway. If I were you, I would wear either a chunky heel or pumps with a short 1 or 2 inch heel.

Re: Shoes question
I usually don't wear heels at all anymore, except for special occasions. My feet hurt too much if I have to walk a lot and I always feel like I am going to get a heel stuck in a crack or a grating in the city.
Having said that, I wouldn't wear sneakers to an interview, unless they really don't look like sneakers. No matter how casual the interview, I think I would remember you as the candidate who wore sneakers, rather than the candidate with the great qualifications.

Re: Shoes question
I work in MT, and when I worked DT through 9/11 I learned the most valuable lesson - ALWAYS have a pair of comfy shoes with you.
Between the potholes, grates, and construction I don't udnerstand how anyone could wear heels.
My solution: carry a pair of flip flops everywhere.
For you and what I do when interviewing, change into your shoes before you enter the building. Don't carry a backpack or anything, a simple tote or even if you rock a briefcase - you can fit the flip flops in there.

Re: Shoes question
After 9-11 I started wearing sneakers into the city. But for a situation like this can you wear flip flops and put your shoes in a bag. Put the flip flops and bag into your handbag and wear your shoes into the building?

Re: Shoes question
I wear heels to work. On the LIRR and the subway. I used to change my shoes but last year I stopped that.

Re: Shoes question
Why not wear flip flops and then change them like a block before you get to the building where your interview is.

Re: Shoes question
I used to always bring my shoes and wear either flips or my pumas. Shoes are always so uncomfortable that I would end up with blisters everywhere.

Re: Shoes question
Oh flip flops are good. They are small and fit anywhere. I like it.

Re: Shoes question
If you aren't comfortable wearing heels while commuting in, don't. You can just bring your heels in a bag (something professional, like a large black leather) and then pop into a Starbucks or something, grab a latte and change your shoes beforehand. I wear heels at work all the time, but I certainly don't run for the bus in them (my morning routine), I'd be a cripple by the time I got to work if I did.

but don't forget you need a bag big enough to lug the heels when you're wearing the flips.

Re: Shoes question
My interview's in the E Village. I don't even know what's down there.
Maybe I'll find comfy black flats

Great area. Definately not somewhere to be walking around in heels, IMO. Comfy, but professional looking flats sound good to me. Maybe flats with a pointed toe or something.

You are so right. I do the same thing. I always change shoes when I get to work.

Re: Shoes question
I ususally wear flats or comfortable chunky heels with a strap.
I remember when I interview for my current job, wanted to change out of my heels after the interview in the hallway, but someone from the offcie was taking the elevator with me, so I left themon & was in pain! ( I just bought the shoes the night before )
